21 Days of Surrender: Day 14 I am A Child of God

Ok, I must be honest. I started worrying. I started doubting. I saw the wind…big time! I know the amazing things God has done for me in the past, but hey, I am only human. This time it is something completely new. A new season, a new challenge, a new requirement. Yes, I believe God will provide and come through for me, but do I really believe?

I was preparing to figure it all out on my own. I was seeking everything and everyone else instead of seeking God, first. Yes, it is fine to do my homework, research, investigate, but God should be the first person I consult.

In His word He wants us to prepare. In Proverbs 21:31 it says:

“The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.”

We must prepare, we must work hard and do our part. But the thing we forget to do after we have put in the time and hard work is to rest in the victory that God has already secured…for us! I have been forgetting to rest in the knowledge that God has already declared victory in my life and in this difficult situation!

Then God reminded me of an important truth. He is my Father. If He is my Father then that makes me His child. Simple but transformative! As His child I have access to certain blessings. I have certain privileges. In fact, I am His favorite! Yes, I am God’s favorite, don’t be jealous guys! In fact, He delights in me and my Father even sings over me!

Zephaniah 3:17:

“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in His love He will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.

I have a new identity in Christ. My name is now Sarah Child of God Williams. I have put to death the old sinful self. Now I am alive in the abundant grace and freedom of God’s love! Romans 8:14-17 confirms my new identity in Christ:

14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again;rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, “Abba,[b] Father.” 16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spiritthat we are God’s children. 17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.”

I am led by the Spirit which is living inside of me! That makes me a child of the Most High God!

This great Spirit, my Father’s Spirit, frees me from the chains of slavery of fear. No longer will I fear or be held captive by the claws of fear! His Holy Spirit has adopted me. I am adopted into the family of the Great and Mighty God!

I am His child.

I call Him Father. He loves it when I call Him Dad! My Spirit testifies with His Spirit to confirm this adoption.

Guess what else this means! If I am God’s child that makes me His heir! I am an heir of God and co-heirs with Christ. God looks at me the same way He does with Jesus Christ. There is an unbelievable inheritance in store for me.

If I am willing to suffer as Christ did then I too will be glorified as Christ was.

I just love this verse in Romans, but especially the Message version:

12-14 So don’t you see that we don’t owe this old do-it-yourself life one red cent. There’s nothing in it for us, nothing at all. The best thing to do is give it a decent burial and get on with your new life. God’s Spirit beckons. There are things to do and places to go!

15-17 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!”

We (you) are children of God! We need to start living as children of God! Trusting as children of God! Walking as children of God! Making decisions as children of God! No longer are we slaves to fear, but we are children of God!

Do you know who you are?
